Our French curriculum is designed to progressively develop children’s confidence and skills in languages, through regularly taught lessons across KS2.

It aims to foster children’s curiosity and help deepen their understanding of the world by including an introduction to the culture and geographical features of French speaking countries and communities.

The Kapow French Scheme allows opportunities for children to acquire, use and apply a growing bank of vocabulary and grammatical structures organised around topics. In Lower KS2 there is a strong emphasis placed on developing their Speaking and Listening skills. These will be embedded and developed further in Upper KS2 alongside Reading and Writing.

We aim to inspire pupils to develop a love of language in preparation for further language learning in the future, equipping them with the skills to be confident global citizens.

Through our French curriculum we aim:

  • To provide opportunities to communicate confidently with others in another language.
  • To help understand their place in a multi-cultural society and to foster a curiosity about our world and the people within it.
  • To develop the skills and foundations needed to explore further language acquisition.
  • To provide opportunities for pupils to communicate for practical purposes and experience texts in the original language.
  • To develop cross-curricular links such as developing number knowledge in a different language.
