Geography
Our initial plans for Geography are based on the National Curriculum outcomes.
We have then looked at the knowledge, progression of skills and the key concepts that every child will need to know in order to prepare them for their next stage of education.
Using clear sequences of learning, lessons are planned to develop children's knowledge, skills and understanding in the subject. We also plan for the vocabulary that children will learn throughout a topic, and any cross curricular links that can be made.
Teachers have closely planned the Geography curriculum, against our topics. Whilst the knowledge within a topic may be similar for the older and younger children within a mixed aged class, the skill expectations will vary depending on the age of the children.
We also look for opportunities to offer 'enrichment opportunities'. These may be visits to relevant places; visitors to school or school based activities such as open afternoons for parents to view work and for the children to explain their learning further.
We aim to foster a lifelong curiosity and sense of the world; its physical nature, cultures and the people within it.
We want children to know about and investigate a range of diverse places, people and resources including both natural and human environments.
We intend to improve pupils’ knowledge of a range of maps and their ability to interpret what maps are telling them.
Pupils will also develop an appreciation and understanding of their local area and how natural causes and humans have influenced the area.
